MINIMATA COMPLIANT
The ban on the sale and transportation of
products which contain mercury means that
alternatives to mercury in glass thermometers
are needed. The new Mercure Digital
Thermometer/Psychrometer from MetSpec
provides a simple and easy solution.

TOUGH AND RUGGED
Designed for use in the harshest, hottest
and coldest locations, all its components are
specified from -40 to 60 C and are all IP67
rated. The electronics of the Mercure Digital
are very stable and have proven to maintain
accuracy within 0.1 C.

EFFORTLESS OPERATION
All the required temperature readings, plus archived values, are clearly visible on large displays – from just 2 presses of a button. Without the display running, the Mercure silently takes readings each minute and stores the values for later viewing. The time in 24 hour clock format is shown prior to reading, to assist the observer.

TAILORED MEASUREMENTS
The upper display shows temperature from a
PRT. The lower display may also run from a PRT
on a longer lead, to enable the measurement of
grass or soil temperatures.
Alternatively, the Mercure’s lower display is
relative humidity from the other PRT (using
a wetted muslin wick). The RH is shown as a
percentage, by pre-calculation.

READY TO READ

With the first button press by the observer, the current time is clearly shown in 24-hour clock format. Upon pressing the button one more time, a cycle of readings is initiated. The readings are displayed in sequence. The values are displayed for 10 seconds each. The sequence is as follows:

  1. Current temperatures on both displays. Or the current temperature on the top display, and RH on the lower display.
  2. Maximum values for the current 24 period. Maximum temperature on both displays, or the maximum temperature on the top display, and maximum RH on the lower display.
  3. Minimum values for the current 24 period. Minimum temperature on both displays, or the minimum temperature on the top display, and minimum RH on the lower display.-24 HOURS
  4. Maximum readings from both PRTs for the previous 24 hour period
  5. Minimum readings from both PRTs for the previous 24 hour period

Each cycle of readings is visible for 10 seconds. At the very end after the 5th display of readings, the display stops – but the internal logging of data continues.

At any time during the cycle, the observer may over-ride the 10 second display window, to speed up the process of reading – just by pressing the button again.

The Mercure has a default reset time of 0900 UTC. At that time, a new current logging window starts (lines 1,2 & 3 listed above). The maximum and minimum values on lines 4 & 5 remain visible until 1000 UTC.

This allows the observer to be up to 1 hour late. However, the internal logging is from 0900 to 0900 UTC. The reset time is easily changeable and we can set up any desired reset/rollover time, for example 0800 local time, if preferred. The observer can also change this time, simply by connecting the device to a laptop and entering a code.

YOU CHOOSE, EITHER
1/10 OR 1/3 DIN

You can choose from a either 1/10 or 1/3 din, electrical platinum resistance thermometer. Your choice will determine the final overall accuracy.

MetSpec supplies both types, prewired. They are fitted with an IP67 connector at one end, to screw water-tight and securely onto the ports at the base of the Mercure.

THREE OPTIONS FOR POWERING
The Mercure Digital works on a DC supply. It
requires a minimum 3.6 V and a maximum of
14 V. This allows for 3 options for power:

1. A non rechargeable lithium battery
Using a non-rechargeable 3.6 volt lithium
battery will typically provide around 6
months of power. MetSpec offers a
waterproof battery box with an easily
removable lid, to fit the battery. This box
comes with a flying lead for instant power
connection

2. Solar power charging kit Using a fully rechargeable battery with a solar panel will allow for continual use. The solar panel kit supplied by MetSpec works at latitudes of 60 deg N and S, where there is very little winter sunshine. The small solar panel fits onto a MetSpec instrument Shelter roof with 4 bolts. The roof can be supplied pre-drilled for existing sites.

3. Direct supply at higher voltages The Mercure can be powered from a nominal 12 Vdc supply which allows greater flexibility for use on ships or where this source is already available IMPORTANT NOTE: The device has built in surge protection and protection against reverse polarity

MERCURE 48/48RH
Reviewable current, maximum and minimum
temperature values for up to 48 hours. Shows
temperatures on the two displays, from 2 PRT s
supplied by us.
Top Display – PRT fitted to Port 1.
Lower display – PRT fitted to Port 2 – preconfigurable to show either temperature or
relative humidity.
For the measurement of two temperature
values, one PRT may be supplied with a
longer wire for ground or soil temperature
measurement.
For the measurement of temperature and
relative humidity, we can supply small muslin
wicks and water bottles to fit to PRT 2.
Pre-configuration to either temperature or RH
mode can be done prior to dispatch. It may be
switched easily by the user. Simply connect the
Mercure to a laptop through Teraterm and enter
2 commands.
